- Do not be surprised if life goes by the slag 😅
There's something real about that ... In and out again ... outside storm at its finest, but what do you do if everything flies away in front of the caravan? It has to go quickly and there is nothing to take off with shoes so that all the dirt does not end up in the caravan. What is the first thing to fly when it gets windy outside ... yes the dirt mat! So we came up with something on this topic and, as always, it has to be cheap / practical and fast! We bought a floor mop for € 2 and sewed on two rubbers that we already had at home. It is now a cheap and easy solution. There are similar mats to buy that are slightly different in structure. We are testing our solution for now! - Go shopping on an empty stomach ... are now the owners of shelves 1 to 3.
What to do with vegetables or "wobbly accessories"? Juppi jaja juppi juppi jay! It is quite a challenge to switch from a 16 m² to 1 m² kitchen. To be honest, we haven't cooked that much yet. After the experiences from our last vacation our kitchen cupboard got an "upgrade" We don't really have a lot of dishes, but it always took a lot of nerves to get things to or to stow them away. With this in mind, the small kitchen cupboard has been given a floor (light shelf). Now the cutting board, pot lid and kettle have their fixed place. The idea is to convert the lower compartment into a small vegetable store ... Pictures will follow after the test phase - we will report. Project vegetable compartment ... is ready for the test phase. The next tours will show whether it is practical. In any case, there is now space for everything in the small kitchen cupboard. But stooping is still inevitable. So stay sporty! - All the cups in the closet?
Do caravan owners have to be athletic? A caravan without a kitchen? Inconceivably! Eating out is all well and good, but swinging the wooden spoon yourself from time to time is not only cheaper, it can also be fun For us, too, a good meal that you cook yourself is part of a successful holiday. We have decided to test other campers' favorite recipes and to do without electricity-operated kitchen appliances. Important thing: the ingredients! At best, they should be durable and easy to store. So that the menu does not only consist of "canned food", fresh vegetables from the market or a "catch" from the fish market are the best choices. The right ingredients for cooking in the caravan and good recipes are one thing, the right equipment for implementation is another. The storage space in the caravan is known to be limited, which is why we rely on space-saving equipment. It starts with the pots and doesn't stop with the pan. And that's what we have set ourselves as our goal. It's supposed to be fun, not just in terms of color, but also to be practical and comfortable. For the constant search to get a can, screwdriver or shoes you have to be athletic and really in top shape! The idea for the apothecary cabinet à la Troll-lala came about when we had to rebuild the seating area again and again in order to get at things that were stowed underneath. On the right of our "wagon" there are two camping chairs, on the left there are drinks. The roller board gets a STOPPER so that it doesn't rock back and forth during the trip. Whether shoes, heavy cans, drinks or tools, loading and unloading is simply fun here! Material: light spruce board 20 x 80 cm Small rolls 4 pieces 3 baskets 22 screws It's a simple and cheap solution. Instead of plastic baskets, you could use wooden boxes, the height can also be adjusted as required. One or the other mentally installs a motor and has everything controlled automatically with the remote control. Have fun! Win win The links used are commission links, also known as affiliate links. - Weight problems? ... we step on the gas!
Save weight and more energy on board! Like many others, we started with classic gray 2 x 5kg steel gas bottles. The advantage of steel bottles, in addition to the low purchase price, is certainly their widespread use. You can get the bottles exchanged for a full one at almost every corner. But the bottles also have a major disadvantage and that is their high weight. This is on average 11-12 kilos and so we drive (fully filled) around 22-23 kilos through the area. Except for the winter time, you can get by with a 5kg gas bottle for a long time. As an example, on our 2-week holiday in Italy, we cooked every day, not just coffee, and heated it up in the evening and managed to get by with just one bottle. We always have a second full bottle with us to be on the safe side. But the disadvantage for us is always the heavy weight of the gray steel cylinders. An alternative is needed and we would like to opt for an aluminum gas cylinder. Until now: Empty weight steel bottle: approx. 5 - 6.5 kg / tare Filled with 5 kg of gas Total weight: approx. 11 - 13 kg With two bottles it is: 10 kg of gas approx. 22-26 kg weight Variant I: An aluminum gas bottle empty weight: approx. 5.5 kg / tare Filled with 11 kg of gas Total weight: approx. 16.5 kg An aluminum bottle: 11 kg of gas approx. 16.5 kg weight Variant II: An 11 kg aluminum and a 5 kg steel gas bottle 16 kg of gas 27 kg total weight So the choice fell on the aluminum gas bottle. This (with 11 kg of gas) is at 5.5 kg significantly lighter than gas bottles made of steel with the same filling and have a higher evaporation capacity even at low temperatures. They are also corrosion-resistant. The main argument for us, however, is the weight saving. But not only. The modification: After moving the rear belt holders, however, the 5 kg steel and 11 kg gas bottle fit well. The question is, is it legal, practical and affordable? Variant I. More gas, less weight. However, the aluminum bottle is a bit more expensive and cannot be exchanged everywhere in Europe. Variation II Perfect solution for longer, further trips, or winter camping. If the large aluminum gas bottle is empty, the small steel bottle is connected and it can be exchanged anywhere if necessary. The disadvantage here is the total weight. Hmmm....? We will test it! We would be happy to receive feedback or experiences. Addendum: So far we've done very well with the 1400 kilograms. With our standard equipment we are mostly light at ± 1300 kilos. Of course we like to have nice things on board, so be careful! and we will always have to pay attention to weight. And of course we only mean the caravan 🤣. Addendum January 21, 2021: After a loooong back and forth we decided to have more gas on board. Ok, we have 5kg more weight but twice as much gas🙃🙂 Moving the bracket is very easy, you just have to find the right position and be careful not to dislocate. We will probably switch completely to aluminum gas bottles (a little more expensive) so that we can also save weight. Win win The links used are commission links, also known as affiliate links. - Door stoppers vs. door blisters
A quick, easy and inexpensive solution to avoid major damage. Our holiday season has started in April since 2020. The first destination is the garden! The times of the pandemic brought us to a solution and enjoyed just as much as the somewhat fresh days as campers self-sufficient in the great outdoors. April - from a meteorological point of view, a very interesting weather month. From a late onset of winter with icy cold to summer temperatures with all types of precipitation, meteorologists will not get bored. When we wake up in the morning it is usually quite fresh in the caravan. Heating on and in 5 minutes it will be cozy and warm. Since we are self-sufficient, we cannot use the hot air blower. The door must remain open so that it is warm in the bathroom. Mishap: The door has developed a blister because it is right in front of the heater when it opens fully. So that it doesn't happen again, we sewed and attached a door stopper. E.g. imitation leather strips, choose the color and sew a strip Screw on push buttons (pre-drill slightly beforehand) Screw length = 10mm Rivet the first push button in the synthetic leather strip and determine the distance between the door and the heater Unscrew the second push button, if desired also a third to shorten or lengthen the desired distance. The door always comes back to the desired distance. Have fun building it! Win win The links used are commission links, also known as affiliate links. - Every 5 minutes garbage falls in love with this trash can!
Love at second sight ... Yes and we found it! The search for the perfect garbage can came to a successful end after months. The choice is huge. It ranges from shiny stainless steel to plastic, hanging or free-standing, pedal bin or push flap, and from canary yellow to an elegant gray. The most important criterion was that the lid stays open and you have both hands to dispose of the garbage so that nothing goes wrong. A lid - a must in the small one-room apartment. We never really liked the original and the price is now a bit "uff". Yes, ok, if you can afford the caravan, you should also be able to afford the bucket, but our "avarice" gets in the way. (20% of the original) Well, there it is - and that's how we need it. The lid can be opened in two directions and it stays open. The practical thing about the bucket is that you can hang it on the drawer so that everything can land in the trash can when you snip it! The fixings are included as well as the scraper. * no advertising, everything was found, ordered and paid for by yourself! Win win The links used are commission links, also known as affiliate links. - What is stuck!
Nothing new but attractive. We once accidentally ordered the wrong elastic, the color matched but the diameter was a bit too thick. It will be good for something, we thought at the time, and that's how it is. In our one-room apartment of around 20m² every storage space is important and the way we keep order also plays a major role. This type of attachment is not only practical but also easy to implement and inexpensive. We also think it looks good. The place is perfect. Of course, no heavy things are jammed here, after all, this is a door and the hinge cannot withstand everything. You don't need two different drills, elastic band and the desired size and color. - "The art of traveling is not about planning, it's about doing it!"
Before starting the trip, it is important to find out how and with whom you want to travel. Everyone travels differently and is a different type of traveler. The two questions are answered quickly with us, we are a well-rehearsed team and traveling with the caravan is currently our absolute favorite. Often we still have no idea where to go! With the map on the table, planning is really fun and ideas for new travel destinations are just bubbling up. We love to plan trips with our fingers, to look at the stops where we are, after which we have lost our way as always (rituals are important). Sure, it works with a laptop, cell phone or tablet nowadays, but it's not the same for us. We searched for a suitable card for a while. It had to be a map of Europe, because we will only want to travel with our troll in Europe. It should not be too small and not too big and it should be foiled. The card is 89.5 cm X 122.5 cm in size, washable and writable. A route can be drawn with a washable pen. Since the map had to be cut, we were faced with a decision here, which parts of Europe are we going to visit for sure? After cutting, we attached the card with 4 double-sided adhesive strips. Most of the time we have our felt sheet on the table - even if we like colors, it would be a bit too colorful for us in the one-room apartment. - Who invented it?
Not us, but the idea and the possibilities are diverse! Order is important! For us, the practical is always an issue. The thing that always particularly annoyed us was the handling of the sink cover cutting board, which always has to be stowed away while driving. The board mostly ended up in bed under the covers. Did we wash up, or cook it, was it back on the bed or wandered from A to B. We had a similar problem with drinks or shoes. No matter where they were, they were always in the way. Then they were stowed away according to the motto: "Out of sight, out of mind". With the utensil clamping system, we have found a quick, inexpensive and, as we think, stylish solution to the annoying problems. Especially during the journey everything stays fixed and has a permanent place in the caravan. Nice holder for light things. To be attached anywhere, as you can determine the size and shape yourself. https://www.fritz-berger.de/artikel/utensilien-spannsystem-7545?varid=26290 Win win The links used are commission links, also known as affiliate links.
